NASHVILLE, Tenn. ñ Three songwriters who‘ve penned hits for Tim McGraw, Jamie O‘Neal, Martina McBride and others will perform on Saturday, July 16, at the scenic grounds of Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory overlooking Nashville.
Rivers Rutherford, Roxie Dean and Tom Douglas will sing many of their hits beginning at 8 p.m. as part of the Bluebird on the Mountain concert series, a collaboration of the observatory and famed Nashville club the Bluebird CafÈ.
Gates will open at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are available through Ticketmaster, which will add a handling fee. Tickets are limited and may run out before the day of the show. The concert will be held rain or shine.
Tickets may be bought in advance for $55 per carload and at the door for $65. Cars may contain a maximum of eight people and no RV‘s or buses will be admitted.
Single tickets cost $17.50 in advance and $25 at the door.
Visitors are encouraged to pack a picnic and bring blankets and lawn chairs for comfort. The series is booked by Amy Kurland of the Bluebird CafÈ, a legendary Nashville listening room.
Rutherford is currently enjoying the Top 15 success of “Homewrecker,” a song he wrote for Gretchen Wilson. He also wrote the No. 1 hits “Real Good Man” for Tim McGraw and “If You Ever Stop Loving Me” for Montgomery Gentry. He released his own album in 2003, “Just Another Coaster.”
Dean wrote the No. 1 hit “When I Think About Angels” for Jamie O‘Neal and has had songs recorded by Lee Ann Womack, Tracy Lawrence and others. After years of labor, Tom Douglas scored a No. 1 hit when Collin Raye released his song “Little Rock” in 1994. He had another hit when Martina McBride recorded “Love‘s the Only House.”
Each Bluebird on the Mountain concert ends with an invitation to stargaze using the observatory‘s Seyfert telescope.
