Two Vanderbilt University alumni elected to Board of Trust

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ñ William M. Wilson, a Nashville businessman and
Vanderbilt alumnus, and Carrie Colvin, a member of the Class of 2005
from Birmingham, Ala., are the newest members of the Vanderbilt Board
of Trust. Colvin and Wilson were elected at the board‘s spring meeting
on April 29.

Wilson, who received a bachelor‘s degree in business administration
from Vanderbilt in 1970, is president of Cherokee Equity Corporation, a
private management company, and Cherokee Properties Inc., a private
real estate holding company. He is also a principal in Global
Associates LLC, a Memphis-based business management firm.

Wilson‘s family has many strong philanthropic ties to Vanderbilt. His
father, David K. Wilson, is an emeritus trustee who previously served
as chair of the Board of Trust. The David K. Wilson Hall is named in
his honor. Several endowed chairs and programs at Vanderbilt are named
for members of his family.

Wilson, who is serving as chair for the Class of 1970‘s reunion this
year, is a member of the Canby Robinson Society and the Blair Patron‘s
Society. He is a past president of the Nashville Vanderbilt Club.

Colvin, an economics major and art history minor, will serve as a Young
Alumni Trustee. She has been helping coordinate several events for her
class as a senior class officer. Colvin is a member of various academic
honor societies, including Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma, Order of
Omega, Athenians, Mortar Board and Omicron Delta Epsilon.

Colvin represented Vanderbilt at the International Achievement Summit
in Dublin, Ireland, participating in discussions with students from
around the world as well as distinguished persons such as former
President Bill Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev and Bono. She also served as
president of her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and as chair of Great
Performances at Vanderbilt.

Colvin was nominated for board membership by the junior and senior
classes as well as those from the most recent graduating class.
Vanderbilt set a national precedent in 1968 when the Board of Trust
voted to elect a graduating senior to its membership each year.
