WMDs, arms control and national security to be discussed at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Policy regarding weapons of mass destruction and
balancing national security with arms control will be among the
subjects U.S. Ambassador Robert T. Grey Jr. addresses at Vanderbilt
University Law School on Monday, March 21.

Grey, director of the Bipartisan Security Group, will speak about
“American National Security: Is Unilateralism the Answer?” at noon in
the law school‘s Flynn Auditorium. The event is free and open to the
public, and lunch will be provided.

The Bipartisan Security Group, a program of the Global Security
Institute (GSI), provides members of Congress and their staff
information and analysis of global security issues with an emphasis on
arms control, nonproliferation and disarmament. GSI was established in
1999 to enhance national security and take steps toward the global
elimination of nuclear weapons.

Grey, former U.S. representative to the Conference on Disarmament,
was also leader of the State Department‘s United Nations Reform Team.
He is a former senior fellow on the Council on Foreign Relations and
counselor for political affairs of the United States‘ missions both to
the United Nations in New York and to NATO in Brussels. He also served
as acting deputy director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.

The March 21 event is sponsored by the Hyatt Fund, the International
Law Society, the Foreign Service Legal Society and the Department of
Political Science.
