Tennessee lawmakers will learn firsthand about the people who make
up Vanderbilt when faculty, students and staff visit the legislature
during the university‘s annual “Day on the Hill” Feb. 15. More than 100
people participated in last year‘s inaugural event, and an even broader
cross-section of the Vanderbilt community is expected this year.
Included on the agenda is a joint session of the Senate and House
Finance, Ways and Means Committees with testimony by Jeff Balser,
associate vice chancellor for research.
The day begins with a breakfast hosted by Vanderbilt Chancellor
Gordon Gee, Vice Chancellor Michael Schoenfeld and other senior
officers of the university and medical center at the Legislative Plaza
Cafeteria. Tennessee lawmakers, the governor and their staffs are
invited to meet the Vanderbilt participants.
Then the Vanderbilt delegation will observe the legislative process
at the joint meeting of the Finance, Ways and Means Committees and
visit the offices of their senators and representatives. In addition,
tours of the Capitol will be offered as the group puts a personal face
on the university for the General Assembly.
