Film on energy conservation to be screened at Vanderbilt, Discussion with Kilowatt Ours director Jeff Barrie to follow Feb. 15 screening

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A documentary tracing energy consumption in the United States will be screened at Vanderbilt University on Feb. 15, with Nashville filmmaker Jeff Barrie on hand to lead a discussion afterward.

Kilowatt Ours will be shown at noon in the Bennett Miller Room of Vanderbilt Law School, with the discussion featuring Barrie to follow. Pizza will be served.

The event is free and open to the public. Videotape copies of the film will be available for a tax-deductible $50 donation to the Kilowatt Ours Southeast Energy Conservation Initiative, which works to help people save energy and improve the quality of the environment.

Barrie spent 18 months traveling the southeastern United States examining the environmental and human health consequences of energy production in America. From mountain-top removal in West Virginia to air pollution and childhood asthma to global climate change, Kilowatt Ours aims to shed light on the connections between individual choices and the greater good.

Kilowatt Ours debuted on Jan. 30 at the Freedom Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The screening and discussion are sponsored by the EcoConcerns group of Vanderbilt University Divinity School; the Environmental Law Society of Vanderbilt University Law School; and Net Impact, an environmental group made up of Owen Graduate School of Management students.
