Fat cats showcase artistic talents of individuals with disabilities

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — “The Fat Cat” is the unifying theme for an
imaginative art exhibit opening Jan. 15 at the Vanderbilt Kennedy
Center. The art was created by clients of Pacesetters, Inc., a
nonprofit agency serving individuals with developmental disabilities at
six centers across Tennessee.

The art is based on a Danish folk tale about a cat that consumed
everything in his path. The exhibit features two-dimensional artwork in
a variety of media, such as pastel, paint and prints.

The Pacesetters‘ art program is led by visual artist Merritt Ireland
and storyteller Marcia Donovan with support from the Tennessee Arts
Commission. The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Metropolitan Nashville
Arts Commission and the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Human
Development.

The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30
p.m. from Jan. 15 through March 2005 in the lobby of the Vanderbilt
Kennedy Center/MRL Building on Vanderbilt University‘s Peabody Campus.
