The fathers of three members of the Vanderbilt football squad have
established a memorial fund to assist the family of Kwane Doster, the Commodore
standout who was killed early Sunday in Tampa, Fla.
The Kwane Doster Memorial Fund is intended to help Doster’s family
defray funeral costs for the 21-year-old.Doster, a popular junior at
Vanderbilt and 2002 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year
recipient, was killed by gunfire while sitting in the back seat of a
car in the Ybor City district of Tampa. Doster is survived by his
mother, Kelly; a younger brother, Jermaine; older sister, Chakana; an
aunt, Harriet; and several additional relatives.

The fund was created through the efforts of Rod Freeman, a former
Vanderbilt basketball player and the father of current Commodore
defensive end Richard Freeman; Rick Joyce, father of linebacker Kevin
Joyce; and Tom Bright, father of quarterback Steven Bright. Freeman,
Joyce, Bright and Doster were members of the same Commodore recruiting
class.
