MEDIA ADVISORY: Roy Neel and John Geer reflect on 2004 election in Vanderbilt event

Roy Neel, who most recently served as campaign manager for Gov. Howard
Dean’s presidential bid and is an adjunct professor of political
science at Vanderbilt, and John Geer, a Vanderbilt professor of
political science with expertise in presidential campaigns, will
explore "After the Vote: Interpreting Nov. 2 and Prospects for the Next
Administration" tonight at Vanderbilt. The event, which is free and
open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in Room 126
of Wilson Hall.

During the 2004 presidential campaign, Neel directed The Nader Project,
an effort to minimize the Nader vote on the election. He was director
of Vice President Al Gore’s presidential transition planning team in
2000 and is currently chairman of the Washington, D.C.-based Jackson
Group, a consulting company specializing in strategic planning for
public policy initiatives.

Geer has written extensively on presidential campaigns, including
articles on the impact of negative campaigning on participation in
elections. His books include From Tea Leaves to Opinion Polls, Nominating Presidents: An Evaluation of Voters and Primaries and Politicians and Party Politics.

Neel and Geer will co-teach a course at Vanderbilt in the spring called "The Presidency."
