Months of media coverage and campaigning, political ads and polling,
debates and discussion ñ and it all comes down to this: a nail biter of
an Election Day, when either incumbent President George W. Bush or
Democratic challenger John Kerry will be elected to lead the country
for the next four years. Students on the Vanderbilt campus have shared
in the excitement of the closely contested race with months of
politically themed events on campus, all culminating in an Election
Night Celebration from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Vanderbilt’s Sarratt
Cinema. Hot dogs, apple pie, and red and blue Italian sodas will be
served as students watch the election returns on television, and an
electoral map that goes red or blue as the states are called will be
set up in Sarratt Cinema. The bi-partisan event is sponsored by
Vanderbilt College Democrats, Vanderbilt College Republicans and
Leaders Engaged for an Active Democracy (LEAD). Earlier in the day,
LEAD will provide shuttle service to off-campus voting sites for
students. Shuttles will leave from the Memorial Gym side of Sarratt
Student Center every hour from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
