NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The latest edition of the Middle Tennessee
Community Services Directory, sponsored by the Monroe Carell Jr.
Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, is now available on the Web and also
in print. The directory, the only comprehensive listing of nonprofits
and social services throughout Middle Tennessee, is now under the
stewardship of the Child and Family Policy Center at the Vanderbilt
Institute for Public Policy Studies.
The 32nd edition of the directory has updated information on more
than 1,400 agencies and organizations in the area, according to Debbie
Miller, director of the Child and Family Policy Center. "We continue to
make this information available as part of our commitment to building
better communities," Miller said.
In 2002, thanks to the generous support of the Annie E. Casey
Foundation, the Child and Family Policy Center assumed responsibility
of the directory from the Council of Community Services as it was
shutting down. Then in 2003 a free online version, which can be
accessed at www.vucsdirectory.org,
was created. "We wanted to make the information accessible for parents,
community volunteers and others not inclined to pay for a hard copy,"
Miller said.
Alice Raver, coordinator of the Community Services Directory, is
responsible for keeping the information on the database current and
handling directory requests.
Printed directories are available for $45 at Borders Books &
Music (West End location only) or at the Vanderbilt Institute for
Public Policy Studies, located at 1207 18th Ave. S. For more
