Biographer of Eleanor Roosevelt to speak at Vanderbilt University

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Blanche Wiesen Cook, biographer of Eleanor Roosevelt, will speak at Vanderbilt University at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4.

Cook, distinguished professor of History and Women’s Studies at the John Jay College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, will speak on "Eleanor Roosevelt and the Quest for Human Rights."

The event in Room 103 of Wilson Hall on the Vanderbilt campus is free and open to the public.

Cook is working on the third and final volume of Eleanor Roosevelt. The books position Roosevelt as the most important woman in American history. The first volume won the 1992 Biography Prize from the Los Angeles Times and the Lambda Literary Award. Eleanor Roosevelt: Volume Two was published in 1999.

Cook hosted the Radio Pacifica show Woman and the World in the 1990s, and has appeared on television programs including The Today Show and Good Morning America.
