Vanderbilt students win National Society of Hispanic MBAs case competition

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A team of students from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University took first place honors in this year’s National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) case competition, held in conjunction with the society’s 14th annual conference and career expo in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., last week.

The Owen School’s Luis Mirabal of Venezuela, Rene Vuskovic of Chile, Javier Canas of Costa Rica and Gustavo Nucci of Brazil-all members of the Owen Latin Business Association (OLBA)-competed against teams of MBA students from five other universities, including Florida International University, University of Southern California, University of Miami, Purdue and Georgetown. The six finalists had been selected from among 36 teams.

The case, to develop a marketing strategy for a new product for Dell, was judged by representatives from Dell, Microsoft and the NSHMBA. As winners of the competition, the Owen School students were awarded a trophy by Michael Dell and new laptop computers for each member of the team.
