Arthur Levitt, former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, will deliver the keynote address at the Vanderbilt Directors College on June 9. As the SECs longest-serving commissioner, Levitt initiated and contributed to the development of several of the recent changes in corporate governance, focusing his efforts on educating, empowering and protecting Americas investors. He chaired the SEC from 1993 to 2001 and now is a senior adviser to The Carlyle Group in New York.
Levitts speech is part of a two-day conference to be held at Vanderbilt University Law School. Directors of publicly traded companies will gather to address the issues directors now face as a result of recent regulatory changes in a climate of investor uncertainty. The Vanderbilt Directors College is endorsed and supported by the New York Stock Exchange Foundation and is one of only a few of its kind being offered around the country.
