MEDIA ADVISORY–SEC faculty to discuss athletics in higher education

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–Faculty leaders from all 12 Southeastern Conference schools are gathering for the first time this week at Vanderbilt University to discuss the role of academics in intercollegiate athletics. The two-day gathering will focus primarily on recent efforts to encourage strong academic performance in athletics programs. Among those making presentations to the group will be SEC Commissioner Mike Slive and NCAA President Myles Brand.

Remaining press conference scheduled:

·Friday, May 2, 4 p.m., room 201 of the Wyatt Center—Representatives of the SEC faculty will summarize what they accomplished, present their findings and lay out the next steps for the group.

The Wyatt Center is on the Peabody campus. From West End Avenue, turn onto 21st Avenue South (one way). Turn left onto Edgehill Avenue (pedestrian bridge will be overhead). At four-way stop sign, turn right onto 18th Avenue South. Turn right onto South Drive (Horton Avenue will be the road name on the left side of 18th Avenue). Follow South Drive around to the left until you come to Lot 90, which will be on the right. Park in Lot 90 and follow signs into the Wyatt Center.
