NASHVILLE, Tenn. Top businesswomen including the head of Time Inc. will share their strategies for succeeding in the workplace with Vanderbilts Owen Graduate School of Management and the local business community at the Committee of 200 Spring Outreach Seminar on April 4.
Keynote speakers at the national seminar are Carolee Friedlander, president and chief executive officer of Carolee Designs, Inc., who will speak at 8 a.m. about Balancing Career and Family, and Ann Moore, chairman and chief executive officer of Time Inc., who will speak at noon about Ethical Leadership. Moore is an alumna of Vanderbilt.
Eight panel discussions moderated by Owen School faculty will be held throughout the day. Panelists from Committee of 200 (C200) will lead discussions on a range of issues important to women in business, from Breaking Through the Glass Ceiling to Boards and Governance and Opportunity Doesnt Always Knock: The Importance of Mentorship, Networking and Understanding Self-Worth.
Founded in 1982 by highly accomplished women business leaders, C200 is the professional organization of leading women in business dedicated to fostering growth and increasing opportunities for women entrepreneurs and corporate leaders worldwide. Their members include more than 480 of the most powerful female executives and entrepreneurs in the nation, representing more than 80 industries.
Hosted by the Womens Business Association, the C200 seminar is an all-day education and outreach event. C200 has two outreach events per year and rotates its conferences among top business schools. Kellogg School of Management hosted the fall 2002 seminar, and this is the second time an outreach conference will have been hosted by the Owen School.
Co-chairs of the April 4 seminar are Nashvillians and C200 members Nancy Peterson, president and chief executive officer of Peterson Tool Company, and Beth Mooney, AmSouth President for Tennessee and North Louisiana. About 35 C200 members from across the United States will participate in the seminar.
"The Owen School and Vanderbilt are delighted to host the Committee of 200, said Bill Christie, dean of the Owen School. Owen has been at the forefront of producing women business leaders, and we are honored to welcome the C200 to Nashville. Their commitment to the school through their scholarship is a wonderful example of the partnerships we are building to the business community, and we will always be grateful to them."
Peterson will present the C200/Nancy Sanders Peterson Scholar Award to a first-year Owen School student during the luncheon. A $25,000 scholarship is awarded as part of each semiannual C200 seminar. Interested students applied for the scholarship earlier this year, and the winner will be selected by C200 members on the basis of work experience, GPA, recommendations and essays. In addition to the $25,000 scholarship, the winner will receive an internship at a C200 member’s company and the opportunity to attend C200’s annual conference.
The seminar is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel. The complete schedule and registration form is available online at http://mba.vanderbilt.edu/c200/. Advance registration is required by March 28. The seminar is free for Owen School students; $25 for other students; $45 for Owen or Vanderbilt alumnae, faculty or staff; and $75 for members of the business community.
