Social Security reform the topic of McGee Lecture

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–Peter Diamond, president of the American Economic Association, will speak about “Social Security Reform” at the McGee Lecture on March 27 at Vanderbilt University.

Diamond’s presentation, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled from 3:10 to 4:20 p.m. in the Bennett Miller Room of the Vanderbilt University Law School. A reception with Diamond will follow the lecture, which is sponsored by the Department of Economics.

Diamond is Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a fellow of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He was a founding member of the National Academy of Social Insurance, where he has been president and chairman of the board. Diamond was the recipient of the 1980 Mahalanobis Memorial Award and the 1994 Nemmers Prize.

Diamond has served on numerous Social Security advisory committees, most recently as chairman of the Panel on Privatization of Social Security of the National Academy of Social Insurance, which published a report on “Evaluating Issues in Privatizing Social Security.”
