Interfaith group to examine issues of identity, sexuality and religion

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — "A Letter to Harvey Milk" the one-man show about a week in the life of Harry Weinberg, a widower and Holocaust survivor living in San Francisco will be performed at the Ben Schulman Center for Jewish Life at Vanderbilt March 25 at 7:30 p.m. by local actor Yaron Schweizer.

Prior to the performance Rabbi David Davis will speak about his experiences having known Harvey Milk and after the play Schweizer will lead a discussion of the issues raised. A reception will follow.

The humorous play, told through the voice of a 77-year-old man, sympathetically examines questions of personal identity for a young woman trying to reconcile being lesbian and Jewish. The play is based on Leslea Newman’s award-winning short story of the same name.

Tickets are available at Vanderbilt’s Sarratt Student Center for $10. Proceeds will benefit the Nashville Comprehensive Care Center at Vanderbilt Medical Center. The Schulman Center’s kosher Grins Cafe’ will be open prior to the performance. For more information, call 343-1953.

The Schulman Center is located at the corner of Vanderbilt Place and 25th Avenue two blocks behind Borders Books. Free parking is available in Lot 16 behind the Schulman Center.

Nashville Comprehensive Care Center provides cost-effective, comprehensive, state-of-the-art medical care to HIV-infected individuals within Middle Tennessee and facilitates the provision of related support services to these individuals and their loved ones. Care is provided through a collaborative effort involving the business, public, and medical sectors of the community.
