NASHVILLE, Tenn. — David Mills, a community advocate and political leader, has joined Vanderbilt’s Office of Community, Neighborhood and Government Relations as assistant director for state policy and legislative affairs.
"David will work with Director Betty Nixon and her staff on issues important to the University and to our government and community partners, with a principal focus on health care and the Medical Center," said Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs Michael Schoenfeld. "His wide experience in state government and community affairs will be a great asset to Vanderbilt as we address important policy matters in the coming year."
Mills comes to Vanderbilt from the Huffman Bedford Consulting Group, Inc., where he was a principal. He previously worked in the administration of Gov. Ned McWherter and as legislative assistant to Tennessee House Speaker Pro Tem Lois DeBerry of Memphis. A graduate of Tennessee State University, he has served on a number of boards, including the YMCA and the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center at Meharry Medical College.
