You could find a somber study carrel or park your posterior in your dorm room when duty calls. But the sun is out for a change, a mockingbird is trilling love songs on Magnolia Lawn, and over in the Baseball Glove Lounge, generations of students before you have already broken in those comfy-kitschy chairs. Or there’s the just-renovated Alumni Hall, with bright airy spaces and limestone fireplaces engraved with the names of fallen World War I alumni—not to mention the little Hogwarts-style room in Kirkland Hall that hardly anybody seems to have discovered. It’s almost enough to make an alum want to come back to work on a Ph.D.
