Impression: The Last Laugh by Michael Aurbach

15-2

Michael Aurbach, professor of art, who has taught sculpture and drawing at Vanderbilt since 1986, is retiring after 30 years. To honor him the Vanderbilt Fine Arts Gallery exhibited his work from mid-January through early March. The Last Laugh: Selections from Michael Aurbach’s Secrecy Series showed work in keeping with Aurbach’s sardonic sense of humor and satirical mindset. The exhibit featured three large-scale sculptures characterized by the artist’s increasingly skeptical view of those in positions of power. The show included a new work, “Cassandra,” a conceptual piece pertaining to whistleblowers and reactions to them.
