University remains No. 17 on U.S. News poll

Vanderbilt maintained its No. 17 rank on the list of best national universities in the new U.S. News & World Report rankings. Vanderbilt was also noted on lists of national universities that deliver the best value for their cost and a new survey of high school guidance counselors. Its engineering school was ranked No. 36.

36th Great Performances season announced

Great Performances at Vanderbilt celebrates its 36th season in 2010-2011 with a seven-event lineup including international offerings Tango Buenos Aires and the return of the Cuban orchestra Afro Cuban All Stars. Other events include a national preview performance by New York’s David Dorfman Dance Company and The Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile, formerly of Nickel Creek, highlighting the band’s new release Antifogmatic.

Students moving onto campus recycle tons of packing materials

Vanderbilt has continued to evaluate and improve the environmental impact of Move-In each year. This year, plastic film recycling will be offered for the first time in addition to the cardboard and Styrofoam recycling already offered.

Second Annual Exhibit and Awards of the National Arts Program for employees and their families

The deadline to register is Aug. 24. The National Arts Program® is designed to give all artists, at all skill levels, an uninhibited opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional manner and to compete for cash prizes.

$12 million awarded to fight childhood obesity

Vanderbilt’s Department of Pediatrics, in partnership with Metro Nashville Parks and Recreation, has been awarded a $12 million, seven-year grant from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute for an ambitious project aimed at stopping obesity in preschoolers before it can take hold.
