Civil rights leader, candlelight vigil part of MLK celebration today

The Rev. James Lawson, whom Martin Luther King Jr. called “the leading nonviolence theorist in the world,” will deliver the keynote address at Vanderbilt University’s MLK Day celebration Monday, Jan. 18. The theme for the commemoration is “Apathy to Action: Activism, Allyship and Anti-Racism.”

Johnson Award will recognize faculty leadership in equity, diversity and inclusion

Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos has announced the establishment of the Joseph A. Johnson, Jr. Distinguished Leadership Professor Award, to be given annually beginning at the 2016 Spring Faculty Assembly. The award will recognize a faculty member whose contributions have enhanced equity, diversity and inclusion in the university’s academic endeavors.
