Cybele Raver will host a virtual town hall for faculty focused on Vanderbilt’s health and safety protocols and an update from VUMC medical experts on the current COVID-19 landscape. The live webinar also will include a moderated question and answer session.

Beloved Vanderbilt University English professor Vereen Bell has died at 86
 
Vereen M. Bell, a professor of English, emeritus, who had a transformational influence on countless students, challenged institutional structures and pushed for greater diversity at Vanderbilt, died Aug. 24 at home in Nashville. He was 86 years old.

Applications for new round of internal teaching grants now available
 
The Office of the Provost established two internal funding programs in April 2021, the Educational Advancement Fund and the Course Improvement Grant, designed to support excellence in the classroom through continued pedagogical advancement and long-term educational transformation. The deadline to submit for the upcoming second round of funding is Oct. 15.

Humphreys, assistant professor of psychology at Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development. She is being recognized for her research study “Examining Prenatal and Postnatal Influences on Infant Brain Development.”

Purchase annual parking permits now; permits begin Sept. 1
 
The Parking Services office will continue to offer annual parking permits for the 2021–22 academic year. Current parking permits expire on Aug. 31, and vehicle registration for the new year is open now.
