Open Enrollment
Open Enrollment begins at 8 a.m. CT on Monday, Oct. 21, and ends at 11:59 p.m. CT on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. Elections are effective Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2025, unless you have a qualifying life event, such as getting married or having a baby.
All fully benefits-eligible faculty and staff will be required to make an active plan selection during Open Enrollment for 2025 benefits coverage.
What to Expect
In July, Vanderbilt switched to Empyrean for its benefits administration to streamline the online benefits enrollment process. You can also access a user-friendly app to enroll and manage your benefits on your mobile device. Empyrean offers an enrollment decision tool that can help you make informed choices about your benefits coverage.
Dependent Verification
With the transition to Empyrean, Vanderbilt began dependent verification, which requires new employees who add dependents to their coverage to submit documentation to verify their relationship to the dependent(s). Existing employees who add new dependents to their coverage are also required to submit documentation. This ensures the accuracy of benefit information and that only eligible dependents are covered under the plan.
To submit dependent verification documents (marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.), upload your documentation on the election review page. Alternatively, click on the “You have Dependents Requiring Verification” banner at the top of your myVU Benefits home page after you complete enrollment. You have 30 days from the date you complete your enrollment to submit documentation.
