Vandy Cooks Aug. 26: Sushi and sashimi creations

Vandy Cooks logo - largeThe Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center and Health Plus will present “Vandy Cooks: Sushi and Sashimi Creations” with sushi chef and VUMC retail manager Nelson Tiburcio on Friday, Aug. 26, from noon to 1 p.m. in the VRWC demonstration kitchen.

Tiburcio will create sushi and sashimi dishes using traditional preparation methods. Taste and enjoy maki rolls, sashimi and more as he shares tips for preparing these items along with their health benefits.

Tiburcio is originally from the Philippines and graduated college with a degree in business administration. He has been a Nashville resident since 2001. He was a sushi chef for 16 years. In 2009, he joined Sodexo and is currently retail manager of the Courtyard Café at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In addition, he continues to prepare sushi for private events.
