Songwriters and performers who may not read traditional notation love Grammy-nominated writer Odie Blackmon’s class, Nashville Number System for Songwriters and Performers. Students will learn song forms and notation and observe live studio work.
Hit Songwriters Seminar features guest artists each week. Music Row’s finest songwriters, publishers, producers and performers share their stories, answer questions and critique student songs. Taught by Deanna Walker, this ever-popular class on Monday nights is limited to 20 participants.
Symphony 101: New Ears for Music and the Orchestra is an engaging participatory discussion about music and the lives and times of famous composers. Mitchell Korn leads this eight-week class, which features music from the Nashville Symphony’s current classical season of concerts. Symphony 101 is held at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 4715 Harding Road in Nashville.
Vanderbilt Community Chorus performs the best in choral music in three annual concerts, including one with full orchestra. Recent concerts have included the music of Aaron Copland, Brahms’ German Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat, the best of Broadway and more. Auditions are held by appointment with Director David B. Williams.
