The Tollgate Medical Plaza location will be staffed by two certified nurse midwives —Soheyl Asadsangabi, DNP, CNM, and Patricia Detzel, MSN, CNM.

Howard Jones III, M.D., Betty and Lonnie S. Burnett Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and chair of the department, is excited about the newest venture.

“We are taking our services to the patients,” Jones said. “This is a great way to introduce Vanderbilt Women’s Health to this rapidly growing community of southern Williamson County. Patti and Soheyl will be an asset to our efforts to provide quality health care to women throughout Middle Tennessee.”

Opening the Vanderbilt Center for Women’s Health at Tollgate with two nurse-midwives will also serve as a way to educate the general public about the diverse skill set of midwives, who are trained in the entire field of women’s health.

“Certified nurse-midwives offer a wide range of services not only limited to OB,” said Asadsangabi. “Although our primary focus will be OB patients and prenatal care, our patient population will range from teenagers to menopausal women.

“Midwives are trained to care for a woman through all stages of life.”

Services at the Tollgate location will include pregnancy care, annual pelvic exams, Pap smears and family planning.

“We are an extension of the Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks practice,” said Detzel. “Opening this new practice will allow us to expand people’s options where they seek care.

“All of us work in collaboration to expand our presence in the community. Midwives have great experience taking care of a little bit everything, including primary care.”

Tollgate, located off the I-840 exit to Thompson’s Station/Spring Hill at 1106 Elliston Way, Suite 201, will be open three days a week.
