Are you ready to be immersed in a magical summer evening of music under the stars?
Vanderbilt University employees should mark their calendars for the Employee Appreciation Vanderbilt Family Night with the Nashville Symphony on Thursday, June 2, beginning at 8 p.m. at the Centennial Park Bandshell. Vanderbilt University will co-sponsor the concert, which is part of the Nashville Symphony’s free Community Concerts series. The event is free and open to Vanderbilt University employees and their families.
If you or your family would like to try out some of the instruments before the concert begins, be sure to show up at 7:30 p.m. for the “instrument petting zoo.”
A limited number of seats will be reserved for Vanderbilt University employees and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no tickets for this event, and you are encouraged to arrive early to get a good seat.
You are welcome to bring a blanket, lawn chair and picnic dinner.
The program will feature several selections led by conductor Vinay Parameswaran, including:
- Bernstein’s Overture to Candide
- Rossini’s Semiramide Overture
- Bizet’s Danse Boheme from Carmen
- Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance, Op. 46, No. 3
- Dvořák’s Slavonic Dance, Op. 46, No. 1
- Anderson’s Fiddle Faddle
- Williams’ Star Wars Main Title
Parking will be available in the following locations:
- On 25th Avenue
- At the Centennial Sportsplex across from 25th Avenue; and
- Throughout Centennial Park, including the parking lots next to the Parthenon and along the main drive as well as the special event parking in the center of the park. Do not park on the grass except in the posted “Special Event Parking” area.
In the event of rain, the concert will be canceled. Updates will be posted at vu.edu/symphony.
