The Brain Research Foundation has invited Vanderbilt to nominate one senior faculty member to submit a letter of intent for consideration of the 2017 Scientific Innovations Award (SIA).
The objective of the program is to support projects that may be too innovative and speculative for traditional funding sources but still have a high likelihood of producing important findings. It is expected that investigations supported by these grants will yield high-impact findings and result in major grant applications and significant publications in high-impact journals.
To be eligible, the nominee must be a full-time associate professor or full professor studying brain function in health and disease. Current major NIH or other peer-reviewed funding is preferred, but evidence of such funding in the past three years is essential. The grant period is for two years in the amount of $150,000. The support focus is for new research projects of the highest scientific merit.
Anyone interested in being considered as Vanderbilt’s nominee must submit the following (in PDF format) to LSO@vanderbilt.edu by 5 p.m. on June 10, 2016:
- Brief (two-page maximum) research plan including summary budget;
- Brief statement of support from department chair/center director; and
- A brief CV or NIH biosketch.
Submissions should reference the program name in the subject line of the email.
Once received, all proposals will be forwarded to an internal review committee that will choose the final nominee. The chosen nominee will then submit a full proposal to the foundation by its Sept. 29, 2016, deadline.
