The Vanderbilt Poll-Tennessee, to be unveiled at a May 19 press conference, will provide insights into voter attitudes statewide about issues ranging from providing services to same-sex couples to banning Muslims from traveling to the United States to the gap between wealthy and middle class citizens. The poll will also reveal how a presidential race between candidates Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton might play out in Tennessee.

The news conference is set for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, in the Board of Trust Room in the Vanderbilt Student Life Center. The results of the April 25 to May 11 poll of about 1,000 randomly selected Tennessee voters are analyzed by John Geer, Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Professor of Political Science, and Josh Clinton, Abby and Jon Winkelried Professor of Political Science.

The Vanderbilt Poll is supported by the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions at Vanderbilt. It is conducted twice a year – just before the start of each legislative session and at the end of each session, in part to determine how closely the results of the session align with voters’ expectations and priorities. The 109th Tennessee General Assembly adjourned on April 22.
