Take control of your financial future with free live webcast

According to a 2014 Pew Research Center study, more than 50 percent of women are the primary breadwinners in their households. At the same time, a study by Fidelity Investments found only 4 percent drive their family’s investment strategies. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics stated in 2011 that women live an average of five years longer than men. In addition, nine out of 10 women solely will be responsible for their finances at some point in their lives, according to the National Center for Women and Retirement Research.

Fidelity created the Empowering Conversations webcast series to help women reach their financial potential. The first webcast of 2016, “Why Women Need to Save More than Men,” features Jean Chatzky, an award-winning personal finance journalist, and Kathy Murphy, president of Fidelity personal investing. They will discuss why it’s important for women to prepare for the unexpected and what to do now to stay on top of your savings.

Specific topics include:

  • The importance of having a financial plan: Gain more control over your financial life by mapping out goals and adjusting them along the way.
  • Dealing with life’s changes: steps to take if career adjustments, family status changes and loss affect your personal and financial life.
  • Prioritizing your financial goals: ideas on how to balance saving for short- and long-term goals and how to adjust your strategy during times of change.

While the webcasts are geared toward women, all Vanderbilt employees are invited to participate. Register for one of the following dates and times:
