Vanderbilt will conduct a test of its AlertVU emergency notification system on Wednesday, March 30, at 2 p.m. The test is rescheduled from last week, when the threat of severe weather on March 24 necessitated its postponement. AlertVU sends emergency messages in the event of an imminent threat or danger to the Vanderbilt community, such as a tornado forecasted to strike Vanderbilt or an active shooter on campus.
AlertVU rapidly sends messages to the delivery points in its database. Cell phone numbers provided by students to the university are automatically enrolled in the AlertVU database. Additionally, all Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff are automatically enrolled in the system using their Vanderbilt email addresses.
Faculty and staff can register other contact points—such as a cell/home phone, text messaging* or personal email account—to receive AlertVU messages when they are away from their Vanderbilt email accounts.
All persons are encouraged to update their emergency contact information at least annually or as needed. To update your contact information, proceed to the AlertVU homepage and choose the designated portal.
Students will be directed to the YES system. Faculty and staff members will be directed to the C2HR system. Once you’ve logged in, access and update your personal contact information, then check the appropriate box to either receive or opt out of AlertVU messages.
