Current Vanderbilt graduate students interested in going abroad during the 2017-2018 academic year to conduct research related to their degree programs should consider applying for a Fulbright research grant.
Research candidates propose independent projects that can include a combination of field research, University coursework, language study and professional training. Projects must be substantial and require the candidate to spend 8 – 10 months abroad. Candidates must secure affiliation with the organizations/agencies/universities/archives where the work will be conducted and include it in their application proposal. Interested candidates should review the program priorities/requirements for the country they are interested in as specified on the Fulbright website. All research candidates are required work with a faculty advisor in their field of interest to develop the project, and secure affiliations in the host country.

The Office of Honor Scholarships provides support and guidance through the application process, as well as the university endorsement required for Vanderbilt students. Because applications take a fair amount of time to prepare, interested students should the Office of Honor Scholarships by the end of the semester to discuss their project ideas and qualifications and to review the application.
