Each year, pupils at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music compete for slots in the annual Student Showcase. It is one of the highlights of the school’s concert calendar.
This year, 11 undergraduate acts were given a chance to perform solo and chamber music on Friday, Jan. 29, in Ingram Hall. Kristin Whittlesey, Blair’s director of external relations, brought a handful of students to Nashville Public Radio’s Live in Studio C on WPLN’s Classical 91.1 FM last Tuesday to give a preview of Friday night’s show.
Listen to the archived broadcast, which included sophomore Keeheon Nam and accompanist Polly Brecht playing one movement of Poulenc’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano; the all-freshman Aspera Quartet (Eliza Wong and Nathan Lowman, violins; Sabina Kim, viola; and Emila Azzarito, cello) who played a movement of Beethoven’s Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132; and senior Austin Vitaliano, baritone, and junior David Rodgers, piano, who performed two songs by Gene Scheer.
