Kaili Wang, a Myra Jackson Blair Senior Honor Scholar at Blair School of Music, will perform a solo recital at Schermerhorn Symphony Center Jan. 28. Wang, a sophomore at Harpeth Hall School, is the 2015 Curb Concerto Competition grand prize winner, concertmistress of the Curb Youth Symphony, and a volunteer teacher at the W.O. Smith Music School. She will perform works by Beethoven, Barber, Ysaye and Sarasate. Her performance will be a fundraiser for Accelerando, an intensive program of music study for gifted young students of diverse backgrounds, which is being developed in partnership among the Nashville Symphony, Blair School of Music and other community partners. She is a student of Carolyn Huebl, associate professor of violin.
Nolan Harvel, also a Myra Jackson Blair Senior Honor Scholar, will perform live on National Public Radio’s From the Top with Host Christopher O’Riley Feb. 6 in Boston. The program airs on NPR and public radio stations across the country and features “America’s most extraordinary young musicians” ages 8-18. Harvel, who is a homeschooled high school freshman, auditioned for From the Top at the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina, last July. While in Boston, he will take part in From the Top’s Arts Leadership Program, which provides opportunities for educational outreach beyond the concert hall. He will share his music with a group of second graders at Bridge Boston Charter School, an elementary school where all students play a string instrument. He is a student of John Johns, associate professor of guitar.
