Dance Marathon, Vanderbilt’s largest student-run philanthropic organization, is marking 100 days until its Big Event by attempting to raise $10,000 in a single day for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
On Thursday, Nov. 12, Dance Marathon will accept donations online, at a table set up at Sarratt Promenade from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and at The Commons Center from 6 to 8 p.m. during a celebration that will feature music, dancing, prizes and more.
Since 2003, Vanderbilt Dance Marathon has conducted yearlong fundraising efforts culminating in a 13.1-hour event that attracts more than 1,000 participants annually. This year’s Big Event, scheduled from noon Saturday, Feb. 20, to 1 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, has a fundraising goal of $200,000. Dance Marathon hopes to get a jumpstart on that record-setting goal with Thursday’s “10K in a Day” event. The funds raised will be used to support the Children’s Hospital’s Growing to New Heights capital expansion campaign as well as a neonatology fellowship.
Dance Marathon does more than fundraise—participating students connect with current and former patients at the Children’s Hospital and their families, whom they refer to as Miracle Families. To date, Dance Marathon has raised more than $1.6 million for the Children’s Hospital.
