International Lens seeking nominations and presenters for spring 2016

The International Lens film series is seeking nominations and presenters for its spring 2016 schedule. Film nominations are due no later than 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, and are welcome from:

  • members of the faculty,
  • program directors,
  • co-curricular departments and
  • student organizations.

International Lens is a film series with a global perspective, providing a forum for conversation in a diverse community and transcending geographic, ethnic, religious, linguistic and political boundaries.

The Office of the Dean of Students covers the cost of production services, support functions, printing of iLens calendars and individual flyers posted on bulletin boards across campus, and the shipping of media. Presenting departments, programs and student organizations are expected to assist in paying for the public performance rights of the films, which are typically $350, but which can be as low as $100 or as high as $750. (Student organizations may apply to Vanderbilt Student Government for co-sponsorship funds.)

Selections are based on the following criteria, in no particular order:

  • Availability of U.S. nontheatrical public performance rights;
  • Affordability of public performance rights;
  • Availability of Blu-ray, 35mm or 16mm media;
  • Contribution to diversity of the program and fit with other nominated films;
  • Marketability to the student audience; and
  • Commitment of presenters to promote the screening.

Presenting faculty, departments, programs and organizations are asked to do the following:

  • Promote selected films in classes, department communications and through other available means;
  • Consider including films in course syllabi and/or offering consideration for attendance and participation;
  • Promote the selected films among others who may be interested in the screening; and
  • Help to defray the cost of public performance rights.
