“Straight Talk About Pre-K: Getting It Right” will continue the discourse on prekindergarten issues facing policymakers beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 at the Nashville Public Library’s main branch downtown.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and refreshment available in the Community Room. The program will begin at 10 a.m. in the library’s auditorium.
The event is free and open to the public but space is limited. Co-sponsors are the Vanderbilt Center for Nashville Studies, Vanderbilt’s Peabody College of education and human development and the Nashville Public Library.
Panelists include:
- Mark Lipsey, moderator, director of the Peabody Research Institute and research professor in the Department of Human and Organizational Development;
- Dale Farran, Antonio M. and Anita S. Gotto Professor in Teaching and Learning, professor of psychology and human development, and senior associate director, Peabody Research Institute;
- David Dickinson, Margaret Cowan Professor, Department of Teaching and Learning, and associate dean for research and strategic planning;
- Mary Louise Hemmeter, professor of special education;
- DeAnna McLendon, director of early childhood programs, Shelby County Schools;
- Deborah Rowe, associate professor of teaching and learning; and
- Lisa Wiltshire, executive director, Office of Early Learning, Tennessee Department of Education, and former director of early learning innovation for Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Parking is available in the garage adjacent to the downtown library and free for 90 minutes with a stamp from the Library’s front desk.
