The women are identified as “leaders moving the city forward.” Rush, along with the other woman selected, were honored at a recent luncheon.

Rush has been an integral part of the growth and development of Children’s Hospital since arriving at Vanderbilt in 1984 as a resident in Neonatology. She joined the faculty in 1990, rising as a leader in education, research and clinical care, and ultimately emerging as a senior administrative leader in 2007 when she was named chief of staff. She was also named executive medical director in 2012.

“I am truly honored not only to have been selected for the 2015 panel of honorees, but also to have been asked to be the keynote speaker. The common themes across our varied journeys were teamwork, mentorship — both giving and receiving, service to others and balance. It is a true privilege to be a part of Children’s Hospital and VUMC and to carry my story to a greater audience,” Rush said.

Her many roles also include program director for Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, associate director of Pediatric Transport, medical director of Neonatal Transport and co-chair of Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Ethics Committee.

Rush, an Ohio native, came to Nashville after graduating from the University of Cincinnati Medical School. She earned her Bachelor’s from DePauw University in Indiana, and recently completed a Masters of Management in Health care from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt.
