The National Center on Scaling Up Effective Schools (NCSU) at Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development will host its second national conference at the Nashville Music City Center Oct. 7-9.
“Using Continuous Improvement to Integrate Design, Implementation and Scale Up” will convene a diverse group of researchers, practitioners and developers to share research about school improvement initiatives that use continuous improvement models to improve schools through innovative and organic design, implementation and scale up.
The conference will feature keynotes by two distinguished experts in the field of continuous improvement and design-based implementation research:
- Anthony S. Bryk, president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching; and
- William R. Penuel, professor of educational psychology and learning sciences at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Organized around six consecutive sessions, the conference format with allow for in-depth presentation and discussion on topics related to the conference topic including:
- Role of research in design and scale up
- Issues in design and development
- Integrating implementation with continuous improvement
- Practitioner experiences with continuous improvement implementation
- New approaches to achieving scale
- Developing collaborative partnerships
Education researchers, practitioners, district leaders, funders and program developers are encouraged to attend and participate in this in-depth discussion.
Vanderbilt professors leading sessions include NCSU Director Marisa Cannata, Peabody Professor of Teaching and Learning Paul Cobb and more.
The conference is presented in partnership with University of California-Riverside, Institute of Education Sciences, Florida State University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
