Vanderbilt University Medical Center faculty and staff are encouraged to share their opinions through upcoming Community Pulse Surveys.
“Because our people are our greatest asset, maintaining an engaged workforce is vital to the Medical Center’s future. These surveys are important tools that allow our faculty and staff to provide direct feedback on the things we’re doing right and about areas where we can continue to improve,” said Jeff Balser, M.D., Ph.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs and dean of the School of Medicine. “I want to say thank you in advance to everyone for their input. We are making improvements based on the feedback we receive.”
“The Staff Community Pulse Survey contains just 18 brief questions and should take no more than five minutes to complete,” said Traci Nordberg, Chief Human Resource Officer. “We encourage all staff to participate. We care about your experience and want you to be confident in the future direction of VUMC.”
The VUMC Staff Community Pulse Survey is scheduled for June 1-15, and a School of Medicine Faculty Survey will be open for the same period. A School of Nursing Faculty Survey is intended for later this summer.

Staff Community Pulse Survey, June 1-15
The staff survey is a shortened version of the bi-annual community survey focused on the most important aspects that are essential to a great workplace. The goal is to take the “pulse” of the organization to determine how we are doing since the last survey in November 2013.
On June 1, all staffed hired before May 13 will receive an email from Carley Meyers from Avatar Solutions (carleym2@avatarsolutions.com) with the subject line It’s time to take the VUMC Staff Community Pulse Survey.
The Staff Community Pulse Survey email will include a survey code that is unique to each staff member. Please do not forward or share your survey code — it can only be used once. Avatar Solutions is an independent vendor VUMC has hired to conduct the survey to ensure responses remain confidential. Data will only be reported back to VUMC in group format.
The survey can be taken from any computer or device connected to the Internet. If you do not have access to a computer, you can use kiosks around campus or visit HR Express on the second floor of the 2525 West End Avenue building.
VUMC Faculty Survey, June 1-15
Invitations to complete the School of Medicine Faculty Survey will be sent to School of Medicine faculty members by the School of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs. This survey has been designed specifically for faculty, and responses will be anonymous.
“The survey tool for faculty in the School of Medicine was developed to enable responses specific to each type of activity in which a faculty member may engage,” said David Raiford, M.D., senior associate dean for Faculty Affairs. “We believe this survey tool will permit more precise feedback from faculty, and this will be informative and valuable.”
“The School of Nursing Faculty survey tool will be modified from the School of Medicine tool to reflect the nature of activities that are unique to nursing faculty,” said Linda Norman, DSN, MSN, Valere Potter Menefee Professor and dean of the School of Nursing.
