Nashville remains under a Winter Storm Warning until noon Thursday, March 5. Heavy snow began falling early Thursday morning, with several inches accumulating on campus. Vanderbilt’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) advises the following:
- Primary and secondary roads are snow covered—driving conditions remain treacherous.
- MTA bus service is operational on snow routes only.
- To report snow/ice problem areas, call Plant Operations at (615) 322-2621.
- Plant Operations continues to clear primary sidewalk routes.
- Use extreme caution while walking on sidewalks and parking lots.
- Arctic cold and sub-zero winds are expected later tonight.
- The Campus EOC remains under Partial Activation.
The university is observing Spring Break March 2-6, with many students and faculty away from campus. During this period of inclement weather and hazardous road conditions, our paramount concern is for the safety of Vanderbilt employees.
University staff may use PTO if they are unable to get to work and will be not be penalized for being absent or arriving late. Some core operational areas at the university will need staff to provide essential services. Administrative areas such as Finance, DOA, OGC, Athletics, DAR, Public Affairs, Investments and IT will determine their core services and staffing needs and contact employees about whether to report to work. Those who are not identified as core, or who are unable to make it into work, may use PTO.
The hospitals and clinics have separate attendance policies during inclement weather to ensure that services are available to Vanderbilt University Medical Center patients. For staff in the hospitals and clinics, please refer to departmental policies and your area manager for guidance on attendance during inclement weather.
As always, employees are expected to use their best judgment about commuting during times of inclement weather.
