Security Notice: Fatal shooting near campus

On Sunday, March 1, at approximately 3:16 a.m., Vanderbilt University Police Communications received a call of possible shots fired in the area of West End Avenue and 18th Avenue South. Responding officers located two non-affiliated male victims with injuries from apparent gunshot wounds.

Witnesses stated that an unknown male started shooting in The Cook Out, located at 1809 West End Ave., and struck two victims. The suspect fled toward Broadway. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene; the other was transported to the hospital. The Metro Nashville Police Department is actively investigating this incident.

The suspect was described as a black male in his early 20s, 5’10” to 5’11”, wearing a red Philadelphia Phillies hoodie and black pants.
