Lead shielding inspections available

Vanderbilt’s Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences is offering free annual inspections of lead-lined aprons, vests, skirts/kilts, thyroid collars, gonadal shields, gloves and vinyl-type mobile shielding every Thursday from Oct. 4 to Dec. 13, from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Appointments should be made for this service by Sept. 10.

These inspections are mandatory.

The Tennessee Department of Health and Environment, Radiological Health Division and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations require that personal protective lead shielding be visually and fluoroscopically inspected each year.

During this period these inspections are free of charge. There will be a fee for lead shielding inspections (other than new lead or refurbished lead) not inspected during the September-December inspection period.

To schedule an appointment for your department or area, please contact David Martin at 343-0200, 835-5600 (pager), or at david.mar-tin@vanderbilt.edu by Sept. 10.
