Due to recent problems with phishing at Vanderbilt, you’ll see a change in the subject lines of some of your Vanderbilt emails starting at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 10.

Phishing is the practice of “fishing” for victims and luring unsuspecting Internet users to fake websites. This is accomplished with email messages that appear to be from legitimate organizations with the purpose of convincing you to divulge passwords and financial or other personal information, or to introduce a virus to your computer and the network.

The change to email subject lines is as follows:

  • Messages sent from external email systems will have “External” at the beginning of the subject line.

If you receive a tagged email, please exercise caution in dealing with its content.
