Muktar Aliyu, M.D., MPH, Dr.P.H., associate director for Research at the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health, is the recipient of the 2014 Alumnus Award for Scientific Excellence from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health.
Aliyu, who earned his doctorate in Public Health from UAB in 2005, will receive the award in September. An associate professor of Health Policy and Medicine at Vanderbilt, Aliyu is principal investigator of global health research projects in Nigeria funded by the National Institutes of Health.
The Alumnus Award recognizes “significant contributions to the field of public health through professional commitment and exemplary leadership.”
A fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, Aliyu joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2009 and is also an associate professor of Family and Community Medicine at Meharry Medical College. He has received several awards for his research and commitment to the field of preventive medicine.
