Sally Shaywitz, M.D., and Bennett Shaywitz, M.D., co-directors of the Yale Center for Dyslexia & Creativity, will deliver the next Flexner Discovery Lecture on Thursday, April 17.
Their lecture, entitled “The Science of Dyslexia: Translating Science into Policy and Practice,” will begin at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall. It is sponsored by the Department of Pediatrics.
The Shaywitzes are pioneers in the treatment of dyslexia, a difficulty that even some otherwise very smart people have in learning to read. Together they originated a widely accepted model of dyslexia treatment that emphasizes the strengths in people with the disorder.
Sally Shaywitz is the Audrey G. Ratner Professor in Learning Development at the Yale University School of Medicine. She is the author of “Overcoming Dyslexia: A New and Complete Science-Based Program for Reading Problems at Any Level.”
Bennett Shaywitz is the Charles and Helen Schwab Professor in Dyslexia and Learning Development and chief of Pediatric Neurology at Yale.
Both are members of the Institute of Medicine.
