Two promoted in Division of Finance

Two members of the Division of Finance leadership team have been promoted, Vice Chancellor for Finance and Chief Financial Officer Brett Sweet has announced.

Shanmuga Sundaram, director of information technology for the Division of Finance, has been named assistant vice chancellor for finance, IT.

“Over the past year, Sundaram has worked tirelessly and effectively to support the emerging integrated IT organization’s financial needs,” Sweet said. “With his deep background in both IT and finance at Vanderbilt and other universities, Sundaram is an incredible asset to IT and to the institution as a whole.”

Deborah Janke, director of financial planning and budgeting, has been named assistant vice chancellor for finance, administration.

“Debbie brings years of experience at Vanderbilt and other universities and health care systems, all of which help provide critical historical and empirical context in support of enhancing the business processes backing the university’s administrative infrastructure,” Sweet said. “Debbie’s deep knowledge of Vanderbilt’s complex financial infrastructure is invaluable to the university.

“As we continue to strengthen and enhance the financial leadership supporting all areas of the institution … it is more critical than ever to have the right people in place supporting each area of the university,” Sweet continued. “It is a testament to both our strategic succession planning and to the new leadership development programs at Vanderbilt that both of these roles are being filled from our own bench.”

Both promotions are effective Feb. 1.
