Internationally renowned artist Charles Long to lecture Feb. 19

Internationally renowned artist Charles Long will lecture on his work as part of StudioVU: The Department of Art Lecture Series 2013-14.

The event will take place in Wilson Hall, Room 103, on Wed., Feb. 19, 7—8:30 p.m.

The series is free and open to the public. Parking is free after 4 in the Wilson Hall lots and the adjacent lot on 21st Ave.

The recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award of Merit, Long has also been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Pollock-Krasner Fellowships, two National Endowment
for the Arts grants and The Louis Comfort Tiffany Grant.

Currently Professor of Art at the University of California, Riverside, Long studied sculpture at Yale University, where he received his MFA in 1988, and attended the Whitney Independent Study Program in 1980. His work was included in the 1997 and 2008 Whitney Biennials, and has been featured in more than 40 solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries internationally, such as SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico, the St. Louis Museum of Art, Missouri; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; and Fundaço Cultural do Distrito Federal, Brazil.

Long recently opened a new interactive artwork for UC-Riverside’s Nasher Sculpture Center as part its anniversary celebration exhibition, on view until the end of February. A solo survey of his work is currently on display in Berlin at Galerie Jarla Partilager. And in January, he opened an extensive collaborative installation for The Contemporary Austin, Texas and will become part of SXSW in March.

Long’s work is included in the collections of the Whitney Museum, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
