The Health Plus Wellness Credit designation survey has been sent by email to faculty and staff who are enrolled in the Vanderbilt Health Plan and have earned a Go for the Gold Wellness Credit for 2014.

Using this survey, faculty and staff may elect to apply their Go for the Gold credit toward:

  • The Vanderbilt Health Plan account OR
  •  Membership at the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center.

The deadline to complete the Wellness Credit designation survey is Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013.

The default, if no option is selected, will be the Vanderbilt Health Plan account.

For more information, listen to a Q&A with Brad Awalt, assistant manager of Health Plus, about the new Go for the Gold credit options, or visit these resources:

So…we are supposed to decide whether to join the new Health Plus facility BEFORE the try-out period at the end of December?? And what of all the off-site fitness classes that are now offered. Will those go away?

Faculty and staff may join the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center at any time. However, if an employee wishes to allocate his or her Go for the Gold Wellness Credit toward a VRWC membership, that decision must be made (via completing the designation survey) by Dec. 4, 2013.

The Recreation and Wellness Center will host an open house Nov. 29 as well as Dec. 22–Jan. 5, and tours of the facility are currently available during all hours of operation. In addition, if faculty or staff would like an opportunity to use the center outside of open house times, VRWC staff will be happy to arrange it for them.

Off-site fitness classes will continue until July 1, 2014.

Here’s what get’s me: The Vanderbilt Community is supposed to be so health-conscious but I recently discovered that unless you are an employee who subscribes to the Vanderbilt Health Insurance Plan offered you do not get the Go for the Gold $$ whether you did all the steps or not! I took time out of my very busy schedule to complete all the steps, but upon my declination of the Aetna Insurance offered for 2014, I lost that incentive. To me that says Vanderbilt does not value the health and wellness of employees who have health insurance elsewhere. Where is the incentive for healthy employees in that?

In my four years at Vanderbilt, it has always been too difficult to get to the Health Plus Fitness Center due to time constraints and parking issues. It seems as if this will continue to be an issue with the new multi-million/billion $$ health facility, which I will also not be using!
